The final French Light battalion is in for basing, so that won't now complete until Feb, and I didn't get all the time on my own projects that I wanted to, but I have completed 4 minis this month so I can't complain overall. </p><p>I did manage to complete my first personal minis of the month, another 8 British Napoleonics for my Sharp Practice force:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjsCCEn4wp3R1W7qcFjs58W5aAkydyTcEyXtuyi6DdVJ2tb4M9fgVm41Z08YFMPVWQ_yUizIgi-JGgrZ784p9ktmENe35jJfU4kEjh9qdgNvwnc9te4cSt-WEYJ-GCnApXYSVS88HI2gjL3sP0O1wYuaq124BetHtJOg4_oly2hoyymC-5A0uPDjO_q=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="645" data-original-width="1000" height="206" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjsCCEn4wp3R1W7qcFjs58W5aAkydyTcEyXtuyi6DdVJ2tb4M9fgVm41Z08YFMPVWQ_yUizIgi-JGgrZ784p9ktmENe35jJfU4kEjh9qdgNvwnc9te4cSt-WEYJ-GCnApXYSVS88HI2gjL3sP0O1wYuaq124BetHtJOg4_oly2hoyymC-5A0uPDjO_q=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>They do require their multi-base finishing but the minis themselves are all done. All are plastic Perry Miniatures. I would have done some more but a few shifts at work over ran which didn't help! </p><p>February plans will be to get the French finished off, more work on my British and I have some commission work for the War of Spanish Succession. More on that soon! </p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-50620561537275739182022-01-23T08:59:00.000-08:002022-01-23T08:59:01.039-08:00On with the French!<p> </p><p>Bit later than planned, but here is the first post of the year!</p><p>The start of the year has seen me clearing some commission work. I managed to finish the last of the Sisters of Sigmar, but that was just a single mini so I haven't photographed it. The main effort has been on the French and a result I have now completed the third battalion of light troops:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQSA3mBtl6n9rvOzXVNNOw75jQ-Ye2YMU9lgdiGaVsYJGUFRw2VLgTZ9QRrBxDbqV2tPkc7Jv8xtb-qKoXYK_2DW_f4bHvYphNnW2JSd3vzU7s6QnX8sP097MLnIyNNct6M0eZPmizvrKxHpmL-aLxSdUwmqYIOm2t1YOErQTPyuaD6AAupKUYIJ2K=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="1000" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQSA3mBtl6n9rvOzXVNNOw75jQ-Ye2YMU9lgdiGaVsYJGUFRw2VLgTZ9QRrBxDbqV2tPkc7Jv8xtb-qKoXYK_2DW_f4bHvYphNnW2JSd3vzU7s6QnX8sP097MLnIyNNct6M0eZPmizvrKxHpmL-aLxSdUwmqYIOm2t1YOErQTPyuaD6AAupKUYIJ2K=w436-h234" width="436" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>Of course, they are not massively different from the other two, but it's a pleasing effort. I have the fourth battalion and four mounted colonels to complete. With a bit of luck battalion four will be done just before the end of January. I am pleased to report that I am not burned out on French yet - good job as there are nearly 200 hundred more in the queue for later in the year.</p><p>Overall, it's not a bad January so far at 37 models, sadly all commission work though! Hopefully the next post will be some of my own stuff. </p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-74436518311769550762021-12-30T04:58:00.001-08:002021-12-30T04:58:24.675-08:002021 Roundup and Future<p> </p><p>Another fairly productive year for me, lets have a look at the round up of 2021. </p><p>Firs of all - what did I paint. The answer is:</p><p>376 Minis of all sizes and scales. So overall, down on 2020 by just over 50 minis. That I think is due to two things - there was a lot of 10mm in 2020 (quicker to paint) and my usual summer hobby slump was very bad this year. Still, that's over a mini a day so I can't complain.</p><p><br /></p><p>Hobby Bingo wise, that gave me:</p><p>30 boxes complete - 300 points</p><p>5 lines compete - 250 points</p><p>For a grand total of 550 points. Sadly, I didn't complete the grid but that was never very likely due to the fact it contained kitbashed minis and scenery - not something I do very much of. </p><p><br /></p><p>Where do we go from here? Well, first off here is the traditional update on the Christmas Haul:</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjwWBfx7w8WeJOIzvana-XLniy7M9dZXHQw5FGxn8bg2rfulAfTbuyvcxsTq_ZjtJk-Fpt5B_EPLQS0eODucICW-D2N-3sLhf0CwNHc7AD4sKRN1QXhzaHa4-35DwzQ5oq8ZNQIHjzuCbEQ8KJCrLFI0p7uWeaOofMrq5kFQVu9sCmKHW-oArV03FOh=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjwWBfx7w8WeJOIzvana-XLniy7M9dZXHQw5FGxn8bg2rfulAfTbuyvcxsTq_ZjtJk-Fpt5B_EPLQS0eODucICW-D2N-3sLhf0CwNHc7AD4sKRN1QXhzaHa4-35DwzQ5oq8ZNQIHjzuCbEQ8KJCrLFI0p7uWeaOofMrq5kFQVu9sCmKHW-oArV03FOh=s320" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>Gives you a very clear idea of what I want to get into next year. I have always wanted to do Lord of the Rings, though these will be for the mass battle "War of the Ring" rather than the skirmish game. I also want to start work on a personal Napoleonic big battle project. The main choice on that will be scale - 10m, 18mm or 28mm? I suspect, in true wargamer style, the answer will end up being all three!</p><p><br /></p><p>I am terrible at keeping to targets and plans but here is my rough guide to 2022:</p><p>- Complete 600 minis (aim high!) </p><p>- Do more of my personal stuff (of last years 376 minis, only 75 were for me)</p><p>- Get a games table sorted out finally.</p><p>- Buy less than I paint (even if the pile of shame only goes down by a few models, I'll call that a win!)</p><p>- Continue with two blog posts a month. </p><p><br /></p><p>Not grand ambitions for some, but for me, that's a good guide to work to. We shall see how long it lasts into 2022.</p><p><br /></p><p>To all my readers - thanks for tagging along on my sometimes sporadic blogging. I hope you all had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. </p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-46689380211811132392021-12-30T04:41:00.004-08:002021-12-30T04:41:40.347-08:00Sisters Revisited!<p> </p><p>December is always a tricky hobby month. It's dark and cold outside, which always causes strong hobby mojo for me, but the festive season always does it's very best to get in the way, limiting my painting time. Despite that, progress has been made. </p><p>After some historical stuff in the last post, it was time to get back into Mordheim and the Sisters of Sigmar. My mate Steve supplied the next batch of the commission and over a few nights I finished off another load of violent young ladies:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhOgHfqFsm7-xajkmJNHwd2ViQPfVINnHLMgoo5TshkMJ8A9abnueEDTXkxXYG0mwCxtK8tRWDxLwrvIwxtEoEOz-kQ1-m9ph7uTVHuwcaKhG0avkIVNbtF2hLr5x-jrt2dW90QUF124TjZLaGsFMojA-1_lmmzx5P9Pnur-OCvFlT2v58vqpHcLTGm=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="728" data-original-width="1000" height="233" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhOgHfqFsm7-xajkmJNHwd2ViQPfVINnHLMgoo5TshkMJ8A9abnueEDTXkxXYG0mwCxtK8tRWDxLwrvIwxtEoEOz-kQ1-m9ph7uTVHuwcaKhG0avkIVNbtF2hLr5x-jrt2dW90QUF124TjZLaGsFMojA-1_lmmzx5P9Pnur-OCvFlT2v58vqpHcLTGm=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgKV99aI_mAchSpghni3a5zvRFc4ZwqxBPRIBa6IR3mNACVqiNYLHlcmOo-aEVYREia2mDKRCAOUXq-e4vCDArdbF45aMvHVF8GtZr_6ybSZGtxeHTwCUKjiGycnGDMmjEB1OtQtfCuIpJrqyEcPsQSne477YvzBQjsl4er4VzG3D-4rw2n3pK7B5uC=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="659" data-original-width="1000" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgKV99aI_mAchSpghni3a5zvRFc4ZwqxBPRIBa6IR3mNACVqiNYLHlcmOo-aEVYREia2mDKRCAOUXq-e4vCDArdbF45aMvHVF8GtZr_6ybSZGtxeHTwCUKjiGycnGDMmjEB1OtQtfCuIpJrqyEcPsQSne477YvzBQjsl4er4VzG3D-4rw2n3pK7B5uC=s320" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiOzZtEE5-E8ungK66DoAZBeOLA1gUIYa4O9kiZneOxa0yIgcWAl1pPn1lOXw4v2HRXisl4DLPwSg48huB2n_-UkXT8Bmoi4XAliyjcqHxNuCIRTTo1KLx_WirVMIFTcIeEbC0lUmcIfWf_DFBcvQNFpkfpZA6kTD7BYAB94NnGkSP7o901McdiDODV=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="690" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiOzZtEE5-E8ungK66DoAZBeOLA1gUIYa4O9kiZneOxa0yIgcWAl1pPn1lOXw4v2HRXisl4DLPwSg48huB2n_-UkXT8Bmoi4XAliyjcqHxNuCIRTTo1KLx_WirVMIFTcIeEbC0lUmcIfWf_DFBcvQNFpkfpZA6kTD7BYAB94NnGkSP7o901McdiDODV=s320" width="221" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQIG6LVdhQX5h5-3q43IUMCjpEF7qLq5vTPO8K1tfdMrsVeQWfFeKyT1dNQR5-o23zmDGPo9MUrDbor4_RvHV5pi1p-DLWY-YNwHJKb4ss_guATB2WRNFBL2ojwArlayX8urAPgatHeR7o66XPTILSZxSGJifo0YA7o5i-kD12663UAIPAasO3vqew=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="873" data-original-width="1000" height="279" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhQIG6LVdhQX5h5-3q43IUMCjpEF7qLq5vTPO8K1tfdMrsVeQWfFeKyT1dNQR5-o23zmDGPo9MUrDbor4_RvHV5pi1p-DLWY-YNwHJKb4ss_guATB2WRNFBL2ojwArlayX8urAPgatHeR7o66XPTILSZxSGJifo0YA7o5i-kD12663UAIPAasO3vqew=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>There was also the classic mercenary Ogre to paint. I think I got this German Heavy Mortar as a Christmas present sometime around 2014. It got assembled a year or so ago and then say on the WIP shelf for far too long. Pleased to say that when I got it down and set to work, it was a quick paint job and a nice distraction from wading through 144 French Napoleonics:</p><p> </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgsKo7RVO_CC12ZhtrqDZmATCO667qmOwIhaSTRkvM5ocZo1HFe9GoRG7hnA5jkPPl1hBCrXg8cRBhR5f5zrPVDqWyqlRHpzyNcy4Ep8z6GAeaN-HcOldaLu4lq09vs4e6oiA6ODWpzhlB6LNyw-M-p0X5K6LZmJ5RxMTfSTS2S2nac74oC0lRG2MOu=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="979" data-original-width="1000" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgsKo7RVO_CC12ZhtrqDZmATCO667qmOwIhaSTRkvM5ocZo1HFe9GoRG7hnA5jkPPl1hBCrXg8cRBhR5f5zrPVDqWyqlRHpzyNcy4Ep8z6GAeaN-HcOldaLu4lq09vs4e6oiA6ODWpzhlB6LNyw-M-p0X5K6LZmJ5RxMTfSTS2S2nac74oC0lRG2MOu=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgL2qwh_jQjG6w5ebJArL0ETW3ihGgKZhXNGYX1tF9OBWJj8ByAOwpyVMs3NgYr_MZHNgs60C_a607np741zKWBAWRMgnPPVEosxyL-_AQElC3A2mxUgNY2i27V0Y64DnBmlNxqOe8FvaP7CUeOntAbQoO1gJ74OSxQagMX3WW6UXUoK55EZ7az3U8I=s1000" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="764" data-original-width="1000" height="244" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgL2qwh_jQjG6w5ebJArL0ETW3ihGgKZhXNGYX1tF9OBWJj8ByAOwpyVMs3NgYr_MZHNgs60C_a607np741zKWBAWRMgnPPVEosxyL-_AQElC3A2mxUgNY2i27V0Y64DnBmlNxqOe8FvaP7CUeOntAbQoO1gJ74OSxQagMX3WW6UXUoK55EZ7az3U8I=s320" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>It's cetainly not a ground breaking paint job but it's completed, and in the amy. It's fair to say that with Napoleonics you have to strike a balance between the paint job and the time it takes. You could spend ages on these with multiple layers of blues, some transition on all the white straps and other touches, but not sure how you'd ever get an army done. These guys are avergaing 45 minutes a man and I am half way through the four battalions. The figures are all Perry Miniatures metals.<br /></p><p>I now have a busy desk with about 107 minis on it - a mixture of the remaining French, some more of Sigmar, some Napoleonic British and a small smattering of 10mm. I have set a target of all of those done by the end of Janary - a tall order! I am also not sure how much will be done in December. It appears some kind of lock down may be coming which I have to say could easily hamper or hinder painting depending on what they do with schools. </p><p>In any case, I shall have at least one more post this month for your reading pleasure, so don't forget to check back later. I hope all my readers have a good Christmas and a Happy New Year. <br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-82959671949358124862021-11-28T13:36:00.002-08:002021-11-28T13:36:38.277-08:00Mordheim - Sisters of Silence<p> </p><p>After a busy autumn desk full of Napoleonics, there was a surprising twist to my next bit of painting as I went back to some seriously classic minis!</p><p><br /></p><p>My main gaming opponent is, like me, an old GW gamer who has mostly fallen out with the current GW crop of games and minis. However, he still has a fondness for the older games and recently has been starting to build up a Mordheim collection. His first faction was to be Sisters of Sigmar and he asked me to paint them for him</p><p><br /></p><p>I said yes straight away, even though Mordheim is never something I painted or played. I was glad that I did though as he handed over the fist 8 minis and requested a blue and white scheme. It proved to be a nice break from Napoleonics:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5LKF1L22LVdzzp-0XYDF8CpBo-IJId8drFIuGnzby4dV40ihKWQdCC1lWOFYR7wchehK7FywPkE5rd9RauehhyphenhyphenUKaTHoZHscvWCSmKjD2rFqr3mrQx4CZfI_gsJ5tOuVAMWecb9u2f1Q/s1000/Sisters+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="957" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5LKF1L22LVdzzp-0XYDF8CpBo-IJId8drFIuGnzby4dV40ihKWQdCC1lWOFYR7wchehK7FywPkE5rd9RauehhyphenhyphenUKaTHoZHscvWCSmKjD2rFqr3mrQx4CZfI_gsJ5tOuVAMWecb9u2f1Q/s320/Sisters+1.jpg" width="306" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiozwi4ZO-lNnGnZ1p1VtrTMZdo8oBfHNnEWPulmfAHjxrzExOceSN6ZO5-br4IDW2YqahnyTc3Pur9wkV6ke2NHJMzZ5x3MYGt3GskDMXa4zNWALey4h4LgPzN-m-5tAWbSuYgOdA1BAs/s1000/Sisters+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="934" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiozwi4ZO-lNnGnZ1p1VtrTMZdo8oBfHNnEWPulmfAHjxrzExOceSN6ZO5-br4IDW2YqahnyTc3Pur9wkV6ke2NHJMzZ5x3MYGt3GskDMXa4zNWALey4h4LgPzN-m-5tAWbSuYgOdA1BAs/s320/Sisters+2.jpg" width="299" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>This was the test figure I did. The sculpts are clean, the detail is amazing and they were just nice and simple to paint. There was not an overabundance of little bits like emblems, bags, detailing etc that really slows you down with the current GW models. For example, I like the look of the Lumineth but the idea of painting them makes me cold - they look way too complicated. These, however, are not. </p><p><br /></p><p>I returned them to Steve and he was so happy he has duly handed me another seven and a mercenary ogre as well, which are currently on the desk. Please note - Steve will be basing them himself. </p><p><br /></p><p>Hobby Bingo wise, two of these minis are characters so that ticks off two more boxes. I need to work out the points for them another day, but I do believe I have finally crossed off a whole line! </p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-68505200897861600012021-11-03T04:44:00.002-07:002021-11-03T04:44:35.411-07:00Post Sumer Update<p> </p><p>I always find that I have a lull over the summer months with the hobby - too much drinking beer in the garden, going away, and generally being busy. However, this summer was a particularly bad one, and whilst I did do some hobby, I totally failed at Blogging.</p><p>But here we are to give it yet another go. I am going to try and do just do two posts a month, which will be much more more manageable than trying to update every little thing I do. </p><p>On to the updates. I won't post pictures of everything done over the summer, just the recent stuff. The desk has taken on a very Napoleonic flavour recently.</p><p>First off - personal projects. I have started a small British Force for Sharp Practice 2, which I had my first game of recently. I am nearly half way through the force with three units all done:</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6lEjOpEUKdLL3mGVisCYxzQ40vcwwZuWq_cUKUH_UqEGka7USRVx4lHQKVm_rQBDukedUzurrwtQ-dGjxa7mZ2DBTiifN7ZBW9YFqV4uhrdzBd5dcLQAN9410h7gCf_dhFycbyP8WP0s/s1000/British+Light.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="708" data-original-width="1000" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6lEjOpEUKdLL3mGVisCYxzQ40vcwwZuWq_cUKUH_UqEGka7USRVx4lHQKVm_rQBDukedUzurrwtQ-dGjxa7mZ2DBTiifN7ZBW9YFqV4uhrdzBd5dcLQAN9410h7gCf_dhFycbyP8WP0s/s320/British+Light.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxy1Sro8sltiN22_2DEZY-VCHF826NCIM8NUdzAfx3d3z5hU5y58NtkSgDtYfodSBfzkYK7rN_pHOBo3fVyNnBqVbAj-DD5Ug1_RGFzp757S-lsFsu9TD9otWRSnrdtZMiK_uVARaZpYY/s1000/British+Unit+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="729" data-original-width="1000" height="233" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxy1Sro8sltiN22_2DEZY-VCHF826NCIM8NUdzAfx3d3z5hU5y58NtkSgDtYfodSBfzkYK7rN_pHOBo3fVyNnBqVbAj-DD5Ug1_RGFzp757S-lsFsu9TD9otWRSnrdtZMiK_uVARaZpYY/s320/British+Unit+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcX4D3KmT3cfJ_WylZNAD9maueZwcRMyR5FI5gdCneXf30HyjXcnhojwyRD078hryI6ZmW6Wa0QmdH-6eiDp3J8fQLfNECzuWlschTNGycEw9h0aVCcWDnylnnqAdonf8ZWnopjGIs8WM/s1000/British+Unit+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="673" data-original-width="1000" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcX4D3KmT3cfJ_WylZNAD9maueZwcRMyR5FI5gdCneXf30HyjXcnhojwyRD078hryI6ZmW6Wa0QmdH-6eiDp3J8fQLfNECzuWlschTNGycEw9h0aVCcWDnylnnqAdonf8ZWnopjGIs8WM/s320/British+Unit+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>The idea is to use up some of my Napoleonic's that I had lying around so I didn't have to buy yet more stuff to add to the unpainted pile. As a result, these are mainly Perry Plastics, but hiding in the middle unit is a single Warlord Figure and some Front Rank minis. These are lovey minis and I shall look to get some more of them next year, slightly bulkier than the others but a joy to paint. </p><p>On the commission front, it's the dastardly French. I have no less than four, 36 man Battalions for the 8th Light Infantry Regiment to do. I have also just realised I have missed a box (the "any model" box on the bottom), so I am currently at 13 boxes done, so 130pts. I have been hampered by the fact most of my painting this year has been big historical units and very few characters or vehicles. I was never going to finish the whole grid as I don't paint terrain but I do have a few characters in the works so I am hoping to close off a few more boxes before the end of the year. </p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-66187481613986833142021-03-31T12:53:00.004-07:002021-03-31T12:53:49.233-07:00ACW Skirmishers<p> </p><p>Just a quick post from me to squeeze in the last painting of the month.</p><p><br />I've been working on a slow burn 10mm American Civil War project for a while now. It's not progessing very fast, but I have just added four bases of skirmishers - a total of 16 minis: <br /></p><p> </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY-UN76uS6-YqZBOUmgB2mpzh1YasTUDqqA7D6A7GnmPaNsAsjhsdfamrbQM2VMDl-JARIWVTrPS9ZpJ8EdIZ_JBfWeYHcL1VJUDpIwYA_onT5JgC_uCyOq3QWlUFk5JiN3W2Tv8PWZTQ/s4032/Skirmishers+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhY-UN76uS6-YqZBOUmgB2mpzh1YasTUDqqA7D6A7GnmPaNsAsjhsdfamrbQM2VMDl-JARIWVTrPS9ZpJ8EdIZ_JBfWeYHcL1VJUDpIwYA_onT5JgC_uCyOq3QWlUFk5JiN3W2Tv8PWZTQ/w362-h285/Skirmishers+1.jpg" width="362" /></a></div><br /> <p></p><p>All the figures are from Pendraken and are excellent to be fair. I have a fair few more to paint up yet. I do intend to do more in depth post on the minis and the project later down the line, so keep your eyes peeled.<br /></p><p>I've been allowed to use these 16 to claim an "any model" slot on the hobby bingo competition, which puts me at 80 points - somewhat behind the leader Lewis. March has also been my slowest month of the year so far, with only 25 minis completed. However, I remain slightly ahead of schedule for my target of 600 minis (of all scales) for the year. <br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-21843078220963097542021-03-21T04:32:00.001-07:002021-03-21T04:32:24.623-07:00Rubicon Panther<p> </p><p>Continuing the theme from the last post of "models I have had for far too long," the next complete mini is a Panther tank that I think I got way, way back in the black Friday sale of 2013! This particular tank is a Rubicon kit that I picked up along with one their <br /></p><p>The model has a tyical stop/start history. It sat unloved for it's first six months, until one day when I had a building frenzy and constrcuted this along with a few other vehicles for Bolt Action. After that, it spent years on the shelf without any porgress until two years ago. Then, I was commissioned to paint three tiger tanks and whilst I had the airbrush out I did this and another one of my vehicles - laying down the base colour and camo. It then spent another two years on the shelf. </p><p>However, as I try to reduce the lead mountain during 2021, my first goal is to clear the half built shelf - where this has sat during that time. It finally bullied it's way to the front of the queue, and this is the result:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmrex7P4qHCfai-I_1YVJ7woisLFJxN0yTQ7zK8LQhGO3BEA20pvATQz2SO3Qg2mbpVh1zcFWoKNAazVW2Ct6IKIKPWfS3scsNE5dPc4pI2ACWnVuHw8PyarHbvtklYbSgii70WkqhIUA/s3075/Panther+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1763" data-original-width="3075" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmrex7P4qHCfai-I_1YVJ7woisLFJxN0yTQ7zK8LQhGO3BEA20pvATQz2SO3Qg2mbpVh1zcFWoKNAazVW2Ct6IKIKPWfS3scsNE5dPc4pI2ACWnVuHw8PyarHbvtklYbSgii70WkqhIUA/s320/Panther+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiY53qVF1VOrvPl7e28nyz8WHWpYB8pOXMd9lKhp8C-FuyJNTHumGsGzeCrakjlt6rdvMBzgCj82UJdEHjErg8ZBBOKlZxz51Is-PVZlIn9qo1nzWSqed18MWj6uYc4bqUAzquy8Obvus/s2556/Panther+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1917" data-original-width="2556" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiY53qVF1VOrvPl7e28nyz8WHWpYB8pOXMd9lKhp8C-FuyJNTHumGsGzeCrakjlt6rdvMBzgCj82UJdEHjErg8ZBBOKlZxz51Is-PVZlIn9qo1nzWSqed18MWj6uYc4bqUAzquy8Obvus/s320/Panther+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfDEegKB9jSuDhreLVk0UgDVt-VrGhN_wyIk6z1QwwM8H5bcH4k2vFVHPX8gszCxq_iLTTz4QpjQZxc54PBsV75i0f-LnBbIT62zGfKSbaz4LstnPgy_Twi7fOEtVsYMrL37eWKQhV78o/s2173/Panther+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1630" data-original-width="2173" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfDEegKB9jSuDhreLVk0UgDVt-VrGhN_wyIk6z1QwwM8H5bcH4k2vFVHPX8gszCxq_iLTTz4QpjQZxc54PBsV75i0f-LnBbIT62zGfKSbaz4LstnPgy_Twi7fOEtVsYMrL37eWKQhV78o/s320/Panther+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv3O25FqJpdKqKKe80Kzak5hbj3-6WLPTBTNBwUjfcNvmzLIhsuFmmvTcQQWrRwwOuXc2g5S2XtNU8biJy-ZE_xj8h0nUTpjwlJ-ityqRiKQzMMrJe8lzmiXU6lA58Hr26DLhPkccx6Zo/s3017/Panther+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2263" data-original-width="3017" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjv3O25FqJpdKqKKe80Kzak5hbj3-6WLPTBTNBwUjfcNvmzLIhsuFmmvTcQQWrRwwOuXc2g5S2XtNU8biJy-ZE_xj8h0nUTpjwlJ-ityqRiKQzMMrJe8lzmiXU6lA58Hr26DLhPkccx6Zo/s320/Panther+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsx2p7YeTruq-FjuaonP9bxmfzL3dFxj3wL3GNavy1XWhmIlB-fdvQxpA1DwCR-QCem5zEJrp-MaQSa2OSfigyu2gGFR90smvGucKZrnTx2bZWDEIEpC6ON-eCmHPuNKPgjITQDR8X8hE/s2446/Panther+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1835" data-original-width="2446" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsx2p7YeTruq-FjuaonP9bxmfzL3dFxj3wL3GNavy1XWhmIlB-fdvQxpA1DwCR-QCem5zEJrp-MaQSa2OSfigyu2gGFR90smvGucKZrnTx2bZWDEIEpC6ON-eCmHPuNKPgjITQDR8X8hE/s320/Panther+5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSOxlJnSQsVm2a-Gd_ccU0tHUTR2f60yEu1xIupxmYrtRQLJQ9tg8C2TBCdJTxhZNBFyVazP3HorXo8LAkIt9_haPcjuyDQn4TSFqd4dshWC5BFUMvCjd9gg9cRxWBICfXkJZ-5AlL_s8/s3031/Panther+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2273" data-original-width="3031" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSOxlJnSQsVm2a-Gd_ccU0tHUTR2f60yEu1xIupxmYrtRQLJQ9tg8C2TBCdJTxhZNBFyVazP3HorXo8LAkIt9_haPcjuyDQn4TSFqd4dshWC5BFUMvCjd9gg9cRxWBICfXkJZ-5AlL_s8/s320/Panther+6.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>I have taken a fairly basic approach. Once I had dusted it down, I added decals, weathered them in and then hit it with a thinned agrax wash. It has now been put in storage with my German Army in the hope that it may one day see the table top. </p><p><br /></p><p>Bingo wise, it is another box done so I am now at 70 points - I need to up my game a little on that front. <br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-90052228419718148862021-03-18T07:07:00.000-07:002021-03-18T07:07:04.368-07:00Bolt Action 25 Pounder<p> </p><p>As part of my ongoing efforts to clear the shelf of shame (where all my half fnished projects lie), I have finally gotten around to completing some artillery for my late war British army. </p><p> </p><p>The story behind this model will be a familiar one to many wagamers. It was given to me as a christmas present way back in 2015 (I think) and sat on the unbuilt shelf for years. I decided to finally get it build and painted back in 2019 but only got as far as building and undercoating. However, it still languished on the shelf. I have mounted them all a single base for ease of storage and transport. Being an all metal model it's quite a hefty piece.<br /></p><p>Overall, I was happy with the crew but not so much with the gun. To save time I didn't weather the gun with my usual oil paints and just gave it an Agrax wash after adding chipping. In retrospect I should have done the wash first then chipping etc as the effect was a little overwhelmed by the wash. However, when based, it is not too bad and it is, at least, done. </p><p>This kit is so old it was back when Warlord Games provided a limber and three other crew, so they have been painted up as well:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_kx-jY7aN60Lg3wFT8yYtBWLMRCrd1tC31WuCnwiiu6dlpSKEjpYxlT-JruUyenJdDv40RuPWmzChpF2HewFwFi2T71cs84gMwUlP64fQ3rGGS6LCv1sc6nw5XBKhxqp2SI1YLMKJluk/s2387/25+Pounder+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1804" data-original-width="2387" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_kx-jY7aN60Lg3wFT8yYtBWLMRCrd1tC31WuCnwiiu6dlpSKEjpYxlT-JruUyenJdDv40RuPWmzChpF2HewFwFi2T71cs84gMwUlP64fQ3rGGS6LCv1sc6nw5XBKhxqp2SI1YLMKJluk/w361-h261/25+Pounder+5.jpg" width="361" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p>The finished mini was not quite what I wanted it to be but I am just pleased, afte 7 years, it's done. I shall mix a little bit of history in along with the photos. <br /></p><p> </p><p>The history of the Irish Brigade in French service stems from the various religious wars of the 17th centruy (I don't think people were very good at getting along back then). It all started with King James II being kicked out of England and into exile in France in 1688. This was over the English not being overly keen on a Catholic monarch, and after he had a son it seems they certainly didn't want him to stay and cement his dynasty, so off he went, in an event known as the Glourious Revolution. <br /></p><p>However, he still had some supporters and decided the next year he would try his luck in Ireland - it seems the parliament there were still fans. After some issues though he requested some help from his French mates, but they, quite understandably, asked for some troops in return, and just like that the Irish Brigade was formed. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDJkM4DzVHHc33SBw6IZtdbqClEEHOQ4BoviVCZ9JBqV4On8TSCNRH_sYdByXEsakDcOAyCfR4rGJqT7fE8ZRDawEZ9F7egx0Von9gefRW29XvVF9PxNEvkFv7BxelFm9_yNY4wyAfDyg/s4032/Complete+1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="279" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDJkM4DzVHHc33SBw6IZtdbqClEEHOQ4BoviVCZ9JBqV4On8TSCNRH_sYdByXEsakDcOAyCfR4rGJqT7fE8ZRDawEZ9F7egx0Von9gefRW29XvVF9PxNEvkFv7BxelFm9_yNY4wyAfDyg/w355-h279/Complete+1.jpg" width="355" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8SqLPkiUyrV-kRDzZukpFf3KKB7dSbXPhECjDD1Z0UAlwzR6QHx1I6eueAa3diCH2NSFYTZARCKobIIuXXI5rUoPqNbAv3bXTNkqal8bp2MWZSpJxXWlljViKVoP6WFqI1zYob5F4xIY/s4032/Complete+2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8SqLPkiUyrV-kRDzZukpFf3KKB7dSbXPhECjDD1Z0UAlwzR6QHx1I6eueAa3diCH2NSFYTZARCKobIIuXXI5rUoPqNbAv3bXTNkqal8bp2MWZSpJxXWlljViKVoP6WFqI1zYob5F4xIY/w359-h240/Complete+2.jpg" width="359" /></a></div><p></p><p>Comprising of 5000 men in five regiments, they entered French service and were amalgamated into three regiments straight away.. The Brigade was kept seperate from the "Wild Geese," another unit of Irish Men in French serice, at this early stage. They often get confused.<br /></p><p>The Irish Brigade would go on to serve in the French army for just over 100 years and became an elite unit. Although it took on recruits of other nationalities over time, it retained a lot of it's Irish heritage such as uniforms and flags until nationalised into the French Army in the late 18th Century. </p><p>The Irish Brigade I have painted is representative of it's service in the 1709 Battle of Malplequet as part of the War of Spanish Succession. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_dtrNaK9j85OflzIvqx1R0mrRtiB_puCn6nHvx-gioolOz3_K6fCi6FKOhJQ5spz5IfokMZDpAI-G0Vlxz7LUHNkg7VULLFp4R7ZR3lGQB2DOzuUuGP-G7DdALKQ9p2A91m6Im3c4Bwc/s4032/Complete+3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_dtrNaK9j85OflzIvqx1R0mrRtiB_puCn6nHvx-gioolOz3_K6fCi6FKOhJQ5spz5IfokMZDpAI-G0Vlxz7LUHNkg7VULLFp4R7ZR3lGQB2DOzuUuGP-G7DdALKQ9p2A91m6Im3c4Bwc/w361-h265/Complete+3.jpg" width="361" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcQ90ld-rOpBlMRfr5rbmIYUyJSQ5tAMUdLJA6vpnOLbzidOhrFDjR7yc2pVXZPeHF8vX1I4zS-yGQN0scYYW4TyT-ujsYLIEGKBm3gIKwRbGRBsv-xhqre25gllOs0hDAiPP3jWmHI-E/s4032/Complete+4.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="254" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcQ90ld-rOpBlMRfr5rbmIYUyJSQ5tAMUdLJA6vpnOLbzidOhrFDjR7yc2pVXZPeHF8vX1I4zS-yGQN0scYYW4TyT-ujsYLIEGKBm3gIKwRbGRBsv-xhqre25gllOs0hDAiPP3jWmHI-E/w361-h254/Complete+4.jpg" width="361" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4MjrYmnXTHjcf1t6AAPMe3aOdTg-aOb6JAC4kmhmVtwAptypoSeRPvW1CJ39pLnxiZhfsqinfkpdNnNfbZmun6Md2v1FjlkCwFxmD9Xryze6PNP61mymLSsGyP-vXbc6qAu0o1pK-00A/s4032/Complete+5.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4MjrYmnXTHjcf1t6AAPMe3aOdTg-aOb6JAC4kmhmVtwAptypoSeRPvW1CJ39pLnxiZhfsqinfkpdNnNfbZmun6Md2v1FjlkCwFxmD9Xryze6PNP61mymLSsGyP-vXbc6qAu0o1pK-00A/w357-h270/Complete+5.jpg" width="357" /></a></div><br /> <p></p><p>The five regiments are all named after their colonels at this time, giving them names such as Dorrington's, Obrien's etc. The battle of Malplequet was a large and very bloody affair, vey much an Allied Pyrrich victory as they drove the French from the field. His next commission is four units of Swedish Life Guard for the Great Northern War including something I have never painted befoe - pike armed troops! The short version of the long story is that a friend bought a copy of the September 1990 White Dwarf to school and it got passed around the social area and when I saw it, well, that was that. My hobby was decided there and then and my long wargaming journey began...... </p><p>I have pretty much moved on from GW now, but I have fond memories of some classic games. I recall my mum having to step ove huge games of epic on the kitchen floor whilst making dinner for example, and much fun was had with Necromunda. </p><p>Another game that I never did as much with as I liked due to being restrained by being 13 was Man O War. I sold my copy way back in 2007 for some reason, along with my dwarf fleet, and it's nagged at me ever since. It gradually krept back into thr front of my mind over time, and for the last year I have been casually watching it on eBay, but never quite pulling the trigger. </p><p>Suffice to say, lock down gave me the final kick I needed and I managed to snag a little bundle off of ebay:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Ux7sMU0gdQcqM4DMQAVlb642Dpk7RtxH08Xfd4gEgh-cTirKSdISjUhS3zwB-OboNcqzNcz_Cu9grG4dTaRFBA_AzVvBB7dWZWyEOLSUuouZcIw_TQANbVtCz178PskWKXFcq1Iktjo/s4032/Man+o+war1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0Ux7sMU0gdQcqM4DMQAVlb642Dpk7RtxH08Xfd4gEgh-cTirKSdISjUhS3zwB-OboNcqzNcz_Cu9grG4dTaRFBA_AzVvBB7dWZWyEOLSUuouZcIw_TQANbVtCz178PskWKXFcq1Iktjo/w354-h261/Man+o+war1.jpg" width="354" /></a></div><br /><p>I have to say I was happy with the price I paid for this and it's pretty much the whole game. The core box contains a lot of rules with the two expansions adding flyers, monsters and new fleets. I decided to jump right in:</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt6HovKb6jteVvOqX9JJMt3Oy0NxcM8xuDwGxj8e4GdKYmxIbd0AWjB77hus49pbUGyCQTe2suBidLjh5kl1FGclJiWCqdd7jJzE0-LaV4SLOfAOSlymwygFlwGtflvf65-a8CQcnc2NI/s3961/man+o+war+contents.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2701" data-original-width="3961" height="248" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjt6HovKb6jteVvOqX9JJMt3Oy0NxcM8xuDwGxj8e4GdKYmxIbd0AWjB77hus49pbUGyCQTe2suBidLjh5kl1FGclJiWCqdd7jJzE0-LaV4SLOfAOSlymwygFlwGtflvf65-a8CQcnc2NI/w376-h248/man+o+war+contents.jpg" width="376" /></a></div><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWQ1KKxefnKiNxsXnIpSp1i778CBLGMegqUP1RWsBrrbGIugAE8adgUeeAv6aB1wCsOsUxxH3CozTZC-a5NZ7HTZtePrVFFb-kLQPKmgtGKSZPvEkpYX3um84NGk3deTAJzthXUqNs_AU/s2048/man+o+war+books.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1730" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWQ1KKxefnKiNxsXnIpSp1i778CBLGMegqUP1RWsBrrbGIugAE8adgUeeAv6aB1wCsOsUxxH3CozTZC-a5NZ7HTZtePrVFFb-kLQPKmgtGKSZPvEkpYX3um84NGk3deTAJzthXUqNs_AU/w296-h320/man+o+war+books.jpg" width="296" /></a></div><p><br />As you can see - plenty of stuff. The books are in good condition as well with little to no wear on them and no rips that I can see. It did take an age to sort through it all, and compare it to the contents list for the three boxes. I was a little nervous as initially it seemed loads were missing. However, I eventually found I was missing templates for just four ships - which I was able to get off ebay on their own for next to nothing. The only individual thing I cannot yet get is the range ruler for elf ships. However, this is essentially a 12 inch rectangle of blue cardboad so nothing a tape measure can't replace. There were also no dice, but after 30 years as a wargamer this is not an issue!</p><p>The ships were in a slightly worse state:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxMHddux_UQGN8eFc6OgBlZAhK30i8NDo0u8V_NfB2xl5DlBGOttY8DQMo_UeYCcnrC5hMVXqGpT5atnRY143g8APAoICuHhGlvHCNW9oVG0pv4HRASPI_rwv52dONSAfjA9XjelS2SXQ/s4032/Man+o+wa+ships.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="269" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxMHddux_UQGN8eFc6OgBlZAhK30i8NDo0u8V_NfB2xl5DlBGOttY8DQMo_UeYCcnrC5hMVXqGpT5atnRY143g8APAoICuHhGlvHCNW9oVG0pv4HRASPI_rwv52dONSAfjA9XjelS2SXQ/w356-h269/Man+o+wa+ships.jpg" width="356" /></a></div><br /><p>In the core box you originally got a dozen galleys - the idea being six were pirates and six Empire. As you can see, the standard of these is differing and three have been converted to chaos galleys by having the ram's heads replaced with skulls. No big deal, they've already had a trip to the freezer so I can remove the masts. <br /></p><p>My initial plans are to strip the galleys and paint all twelve as Empire ships - this will give me a really good core to build a fleet around. On ebay you can buy 3D printed replacement masts (already ordered) and I've snagged some extra sails as well. Once these are done I plan on adding ships as and when they pop up at a reasonable price on eBay. My intial two fleets will be Empire and Dwarves. </p><p>I have already really enjoyed this litte nostalgia hit and look forward to charting my fleet build up with you. As a final little reminder of the way things were - anyone remember spending ages looking through catalogue pages like this?</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXwjFM4phFHXsJkCXiTQlRCB7Fq8-ZtgjA6cBlS_-QeDX5-aPhkUx8NCO8SixK7GnhNma-Nv4aT23bRzQdbQigP6hJvhNfZYrNij6O3F8kurSgB6TDtJKJudt1-OvsEOfSm69VNp8oZpE/s4032/mail+order.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="338" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXwjFM4phFHXsJkCXiTQlRCB7Fq8-ZtgjA6cBlS_-QeDX5-aPhkUx8NCO8SixK7GnhNma-Nv4aT23bRzQdbQigP6hJvhNfZYrNij6O3F8kurSgB6TDtJKJudt1-OvsEOfSm69VNp8oZpE/w258-h338/mail+order.jpg" width="258" /></a></div> <p></p><p>What glorious memories! <br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-55710503423375249092021-02-27T11:21:00.000-08:002021-02-27T11:21:23.095-08:00Irish Brigade: Dorringtons Regiment<p> </p><p>Another post about the Irish Brigade!</p><p>This time I have completed the fifth and final regiment - Dorringtons regiment. I believe they are mostly well known for their WW2 figures (which I must give a whirl one day), but a few years ago they branched out with the <a href="https://www.forgedinbattle.com/index.php?route=common/home" target="_blank">War and </a><a href="https://www.forgedinbattle.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=126_62" target="_blank">Empire Range of Ancients</a>.</p><p>The entire range has been realeased by three waves of Kickstarters, all of which have been successful. These have expanded the range from the days of the Greek hoplites, though to the Vikings, Nomans and Saxons in the last expansion. The range also includes buildings for various periods. There is pretty much everything you could need for most armies and a massive Roman Selection. <br /></p><p>Price wise, you can buy units of 24 infantry or 12 cavalry for around £12. An army of 8 units will set you back around £90, giving you a small saving. So at a rough estimate, you are looking at around 50p fo a infantry figure and £1 for a cavalry mini. Not bad prices. </p><p>My first criticism comes on that front though. You can't buy them individually, only in these packs and the packs are designed for their upcoming rules. Each pack has command elements in it so if you want to make bigger units you will inevitably have spares. Though it is worth mentioning it that when I contacted them about buying individual figures they did say it was possible if you ordered enough, so there is some scope for broader uses. </p><p>Down to the figures themselves. Since I have painted most of mine, I didn't have many unpainted minis to photograph, but here's some Triarii and a horse from the Cavalry unit I am about to start:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTWeRGYZtP-25WWw5h1JEqyx-wJC_VjFhIHlcjCbOdIjtdtIX19r4KE0586cTc9DOhlWEt33dStqk99IjEIMHT_V2QIzn_98mlJuvsZ3jN2hAMKj8pwYJYLN7Ao4Eux-HpjgIAhlqNJ5Q/s4032/War+and+Empire+2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTWeRGYZtP-25WWw5h1JEqyx-wJC_VjFhIHlcjCbOdIjtdtIX19r4KE0586cTc9DOhlWEt33dStqk99IjEIMHT_V2QIzn_98mlJuvsZ3jN2hAMKj8pwYJYLN7Ao4Eux-HpjgIAhlqNJ5Q/w422-h240/War+and+Empire+2.jpg" width="422" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBed0WJ3mPbm1fpxr3pElpYaRmyxctiZZ-37T1MZaz4M8q2pR_qxcZQeVD8_AL2NAbDyLabZ8-sq2VM_RW8CrQ-5X_YON7ujc6p5nTSAKrYeXeUN3QGiq0ATT4uUQNAuSlsCHeIz6JCro/s3152/War+and+Empire+3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2706" data-original-width="3152" height="268" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBed0WJ3mPbm1fpxr3pElpYaRmyxctiZZ-37T1MZaz4M8q2pR_qxcZQeVD8_AL2NAbDyLabZ8-sq2VM_RW8CrQ-5X_YON7ujc6p5nTSAKrYeXeUN3QGiq0ATT4uUQNAuSlsCHeIz6JCro/w427-h268/War+and+Empire+3.jpg" width="427" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>As you can see, detail is very good, flash minimum, and overall they are really crisp, clean casts. Very nice to work with and they have suited my painting style quite nicely. The shields are moudled on to the figures, which for me is a bonus at this scale. I would have liked a little more metal on the small base, as they can be pain to mount for painting on sticks as I do, and sometimes fall ove quite a bit when I am basing them, but that's a minor gripe. </p><p>Clean up time was very little with these, and I was able to get them prepped in very short time. Here is a fully paintind unit:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIDfSBvyQ0N9WKd5zFbfz5R69DlDI_wL2Uz8GZcjVQD80YKJEuaZoLbZm6J5RcNrgONVUYjyoXVg7wUbJswBtn5ApPxDgNW0uKczxcC3G1u5lu_f-RXUgpulbF1iKJ3JmIYriARU2dvaE/s3325/Hastati+Jan+2021.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1813" data-original-width="3325" height="174" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIDfSBvyQ0N9WKd5zFbfz5R69DlDI_wL2Uz8GZcjVQD80YKJEuaZoLbZm6J5RcNrgONVUYjyoXVg7wUbJswBtn5ApPxDgNW0uKczxcC3G1u5lu_f-RXUgpulbF1iKJ3JmIYriARU2dvaE/w354-h174/Hastati+Jan+2021.jpg" width="354" /></a></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p>Final thought - if you are doing a 15mm Ancients or Dark Ages project, you should certainly conisder these. Whilst the way they are sold is a pain, it's a minor gripe and they are good value for money and should be on your shopping list without a doubt. I will certainly be ordering some more very soon. </p><p></p><p><br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-6865095810842432892021-02-07T06:32:00.002-08:002021-02-07T23:30:32.468-08:00Galmoy's Regiment Completed<p> </p><p>As part of the ongoing work to get the Irish Brigade done I mangaed to finish the Galmoy Regiment back in January. </p><p>Quick overview: The Irish Brigade I am working on is five regiments strong and represents the Brigade in French service during the War of Spanish Succession. Each regiement is 21 strong and they are based for a game system called "Beneath the Lilly Banners." The main difference is the trapazoid shaped base for the command element.</p><p>Heres some completed photos of Galmoy's regiment:</p><p> </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfYWaw1ZR2riM-N2ynalgrraAhsye0Wcg3WLQIlrC1By_2cTTPnX7Pl_rXXqIApln1DIF_mbj5B9rG5DFb4uTHShKd73a9hjc05WwHE3hMOFtIzpS3tNPUal2gxT64IWF8699RMcCa7L8/s3500/Galmoy+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2630" data-original-width="3500" height="328" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfYWaw1ZR2riM-N2ynalgrraAhsye0Wcg3WLQIlrC1By_2cTTPnX7Pl_rXXqIApln1DIF_mbj5B9rG5DFb4uTHShKd73a9hjc05WwHE3hMOFtIzpS3tNPUal2gxT64IWF8699RMcCa7L8/w437-h328/Galmoy+1.jpg" width="437" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3qEdxPtxDPGSef6kzYsoPIqeNpNU8uxb84v2TGI2NROfJJ079eVSeHzfRQS3tTPJrF0qyEiuCSJKqBHO-eoFlIraHAjAyl63yGrd4n4pvkiKQVpBcIEFYeXWkLQwBKwDjHIB44eIwjAo/s2980/Galmoy+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2227" data-original-width="2980" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3qEdxPtxDPGSef6kzYsoPIqeNpNU8uxb84v2TGI2NROfJJ079eVSeHzfRQS3tTPJrF0qyEiuCSJKqBHO-eoFlIraHAjAyl63yGrd4n4pvkiKQVpBcIEFYeXWkLQwBKwDjHIB44eIwjAo/w431-h295/Galmoy+2.jpg" width="431" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnVyD3EApZSdUhSPhCwnkF0lJGFB_saIMqT5becdRgGzaeLPJ4h3oK3IZTEl-W6ibuBy7YwxpWqODeDKnWdmRjJfVn-vt8k9FJ4OiL94TEDaH5ZjSA5CimGV3mFzAc57LvIssXcRmq1uM/s3888/Galmoy+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1795" data-original-width="3888" height="208" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnVyD3EApZSdUhSPhCwnkF0lJGFB_saIMqT5becdRgGzaeLPJ4h3oK3IZTEl-W6ibuBy7YwxpWqODeDKnWdmRjJfVn-vt8k9FJ4OiL94TEDaH5ZjSA5CimGV3mFzAc57LvIssXcRmq1uM/w430-h208/Galmoy+3.jpg" width="430" /></a></div><p></p><p>Like the rest of the regiment it's in red uniforms. However, these have blue facings and yellow lace along with gold buttons to mark them out from the other units, which have green, yellow or white. </p><p></p><p>The figures for the whole Brigade are all from the excellent Ebor Miniatures range. This is the second brigade of Ebor minis I have done (I painted some Bavarians for the same client last year) and I do like the figures. I will try and do a review of them one day. </p><p>The flags, I think, are stunning. I always get asked about them but sadly they are just provided to me for fitting by the client - I don't know where he gets them from other than to say they are custom made for him. </p><p>Just two more regiments to go which I am hoping to get done in February so stay tuned for an update. <br /> <br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-46242615067480879972021-02-06T08:30:00.000-08:002021-02-06T08:30:33.703-08:00Hastati Completed<p> </p><p>I've unintentionlly fallen behind somewhat with my blog posts - I had intended to post more often in January, but was so busy painting and doing overtime I didn't get chance. So a lot of the posts over the next few weeks will actually be from my January output.</p><p></p><p>Way back in 2019 I decided that I would get into Warmaster Ancients, and went for 15mm. I chose the War and Empre range from Forged in Battle and ordered the republican army start set, as my friend ordered the Carthagians. We had big plans (as always) but they fell by the way side. </p><p>Fast forward to January and I've finally painted nealy all of them. The most recent is a unit of Hastati (I hope I spelt that right!).</p><p>During the Republican period, there were three types of legionnaires. At the rear were the veterans, the Triariri. In front of them were the more experienced soldiers, the Principes and at the very front (excluding the skirkmishers) were the Hastati. These were the new boys. </p><p></p><p>Here is my unit of those young bucks:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDAyEOg2plzk9XN-zMVTIzCWGhJebF7XWxIP-gn1frXEEfC4i41VPooX4g2vVYC1Sxqsy6Fe7sn0n8b1btZVbpvzA10WaWj9kAkVxI9O0qGdVVLAeQl4lS-BN5lHy2uVswfcBuEEpQQgs/s3325/Hastati+Jan+2021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1813" data-original-width="3325" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDAyEOg2plzk9XN-zMVTIzCWGhJebF7XWxIP-gn1frXEEfC4i41VPooX4g2vVYC1Sxqsy6Fe7sn0n8b1btZVbpvzA10WaWj9kAkVxI9O0qGdVVLAeQl4lS-BN5lHy2uVswfcBuEEpQQgs/w455-h230/Hastati+Jan+2021.jpg" width="455" /></a></div><br /><p>These were painted in the old base coat, wash, highlight method. I have gone to the trouble of adding shield transfers from Little Big Man Studios. Fiddly to do in this scale, but I think they finish the unit off. </p><p>The unit itself is 24 strong, and mounted on 40mm by 40mm bases. Whilst based for warmaster, they could easily do double duty for Hail Caeser. </p><p>I now have just one unit of the starter army box set, the cavalry, to do. They are not too far down the queue. Currently, this is the state of the army:</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimXhSkcznXTdWisnaSmy5RaUGSc9K-yDS3IkkTGyEo9TVKlp16unkE8nz2BWeNtw8AoSd1tFFEuLP9UjXTXjlUo6KvVCn_M0WM3iiXQxL07oDSuSEFumbUFOcJYSLPq1-c7rhcnnP1GxM/s3638/Romans+Jan+2021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1730" data-original-width="3638" height="197" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimXhSkcznXTdWisnaSmy5RaUGSc9K-yDS3IkkTGyEo9TVKlp16unkE8nz2BWeNtw8AoSd1tFFEuLP9UjXTXjlUo6KvVCn_M0WM3iiXQxL07oDSuSEFumbUFOcJYSLPq1-c7rhcnnP1GxM/w497-h197/Romans+Jan+2021.jpg" width="497" /></a></div><br /><p>It's turning into a tidy little force and consists of two units of Velites (the skirmishers) a unit each of the three types of legionnaires and a general. I would need to roughly double the size of the army for a reasonable game of Warmaster, so that will have to be the plan. </p><p>The next stage is to find some opponents for them. Warmaster allows armies from different time periods to face off, so I just need to find another amy to collect. <br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-1557317275604995742021-01-16T17:30:00.001-08:002021-01-16T17:30:39.683-08:00Completed Regiments<p> </p><p> </p><p>Time for an update on my progress so far. </p><p><br />January has been a prodcutive month with two regiments completed for the War of Spanish Succession. </p><p>First off we have a battalion of Scottish Troops in Dutch Service. A little change of pace as these are all in grenadier uniform:</p><p> </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh16v7DVNsFqi-z6M50kH3xHuC0VFHGkA7vjm7Gf3pOanRJuWRBX6tnXGt-qFUi5XdPOLzUdTUWmvT1IQLyN5xFx46XxtQNz0vDr1IHeOXOR1xKX4gqtoHLzIGsSHWQc21ycy6CQGb3KJk/s3728/Dutch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1323" data-original-width="3728" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh16v7DVNsFqi-z6M50kH3xHuC0VFHGkA7vjm7Gf3pOanRJuWRBX6tnXGt-qFUi5XdPOLzUdTUWmvT1IQLyN5xFx46XxtQNz0vDr1IHeOXOR1xKX4gqtoHLzIGsSHWQc21ycy6CQGb3KJk/w499-h228/Dutch.jpg" width="499" /></a></div><br /> <p></p><p>These are all figures from Front Rank. Really nice to paint, the detail is lovely and chunky and they have some animated poses. My favourite is the guy getting shot. I really like the bright colour scheme. Just waiting for the banners to arrive now. </p><p>Next up is a regiment of Irish Brigade that fought for the French:</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw1NEpC545hUrTQosRd7nYsiYGUh7kZeUHk-7fVySa5dsjLWR2J_79scH-ybdATdQWIX7abycRtpzI662F57k6GyGTFi09Gd9QxNHpIlbhomYEj4UpntS7hdmKs2k_5l5AxTIZVyZCJTw/s2273/Irish+Brigade+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1650" data-original-width="2273" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw1NEpC545hUrTQosRd7nYsiYGUh7kZeUHk-7fVySa5dsjLWR2J_79scH-ybdATdQWIX7abycRtpzI662F57k6GyGTFi09Gd9QxNHpIlbhomYEj4UpntS7hdmKs2k_5l5AxTIZVyZCJTw/w411-h264/Irish+Brigade+1.jpg" width="411" /></a></div><p></p><p>This time they are Ebor Miniatures figures. A little slimmer than the Front rank stuff, but still really nice. This battalion is based a little differently asthey are for the rule set (Beneath the Lilly Banners). </p><p><br /></p><p>So that is 45 minis so far this year. The only down side is these are both commissions so onothing of my own yet for 2021. However, it also ticks off two boxes on the hobby bingo - the 10+ unit and the 2+ unit for a total of 20 points. <br /></p><p><br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-31639742412805413642020-12-30T07:35:00.005-08:002020-12-30T07:37:45.755-08:002020 Round Up<p> </p><p>I am afraid this will be a post with no pictures, but I thought a round up of what I managed to paint this year might be interesting. </p><p> </p><p>In January, when the world was a very different place, I set myself a target of 350 minis painted, and 1500 points scored on the analogue painting challenge points system for the whole year. </p><p> </p><p>Here is how I did:</p><p> </p><p><u><b>January:</b></u></p><p>A good month. 108 Napoleonic French were finished. The vast majority of work on those happened in 2019, but because they were finsihed (Painted, based, flags added etc) in 2020, they count towards this year. I also finished a single Swedish infantry man from the great Northern war this month. </p><p>Monthly Total: 109, Running Total: 109</p><p><br /></p><p><b><u>February</u></b></p><p>A much slower month this time. First off the block were 10 spider riders for my goblin army and 2 German Spotters for my Bot Action force. I also added three mounted French colonels to the earlier three regiments to finish off that commission.</p><p>Monthly Total: 15, Running Total: 124</p><p> </p><p><b><u>March</u></b></p><p>Some more commision work arrived this month - 84 Bavarians for the War of Spanish Succession. March saw the first 27 of these done. Alongside those, I knocked out 6 Black Orcs and 4 Napoleonic French. </p><p>Monthly Total: 37, Running Total: 161</p><p> </p><p><b><u>April</u></b></p><p>A fairly solid month, another 15 Bavarians done. We saw the first appearace of different scales, three 20mm Poish tanks, 15 15mm Romans, 2 Spear Chukkas and crew (8 minis in total) and 2 cadians done. <br /></p><p>Monthly Total: 43, Running Total:204</p><p> </p><p><b><u>May</u></b></p><p>The remaining Bavarians were all completed (42 minis), and another 4 Napoleonic French. </p><p>Monthly Total: 46, Running Total: 260</p><p> </p><p><b><u>June</u></b></p><p>A month when it was all about my own stuff - a full unif of 24 15mm Romans, 2 VIkings and a German Puma armoued car - that had been half done for around 5 years so it was good to get it finally finished. </p><p>Monthly Total: 27, Running Total: 287</p><p> </p><p><u><b>July</b></u></p><p>Anohter month of mixed scales. 24 Front Rank Dutch Troops were done on commission, along with 12 Roman Velites and 24 union ACW infantry in 10mm (another new project!)</p><p>Monthly Total: 60, Running Total: 347</p><p> </p><p><u><b>August and September</b></u></p><p>The usual summer lull was made worse by a mojo slump - I think it was post lock down fatigue and having had the kids around since March the desire to paint just got up and left. </p><p> </p><p><u><b>October</b></u></p><p>A very steady month, I only managed 16 union infantry in 10mm. But the mojo was creeping back.</p><p>Monthly Total: 16, Running Total: 363 <br /></p><p> </p><p><u><b>November</b></u></p><p>Over 200 minis landed on my desk for variois commissions this month, and I did make good progress on them. But none were completed so the only models done were a German Pak 40 and crew (4 minis), a Napleoic french cannon and crew (4 mins) and 6 Napoleonic French infantry.</p><p>Monthly Total: 14, Running Total: 377</p><p> </p><p><u><b>December</b></u></p><p>A strong month to round the year off - 1 15mm Roman infantry man and a singel mounted commander were completed and based together for a command stand. Another 24 union infantry in 10mm and 21 Irish Brigade troops were all done/ </p><p>Monthly Total: 47, Running Total: 424</p><p> </p><p> So 424 minis and about 1735 points under the Analogue system. Easily my best ever year. Even if you strip out the commission work, I added quite a lot of stuff to my own collections and I find the commision work pushes me out of my comfort zone and gets me to the desk. Had I not had the big mojo lull, when I didn't do my own stuff or take any work on, I think I could have smashe 500 minis. </p><p> </p><p>I'm looking at a good start to 2021 as I have a lot of minis half done and another 80 or so pimed and ready - I want to get off to a flyer if possible. </p><p> </p><p>Finally, my targets for next year:</p><p>Painted minis - 600, any scale</p><p>Analogue points - 2000.</p><p> </p><p>I shall try to get monthly updates up - hopefully with pictures! <br /></p><p> <br /></p><p> <br /></p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-67338586247724907282020-12-26T06:21:00.001-08:002020-12-26T06:21:24.721-08:00Bingo!!<p> </p><p>As you have no doubt noticed, my last attempt to get the blog up and running failed miserably! </p><p>However, one my friends contacted me the other week, saying he was starting hobby bingo for 2021. I was curious and gave it a look. Here is what it is:</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx9Df4Li7rs0H3cxaiTV_7L2MS7yDgTAg7zAgAYZiQ8vXP74SqbmlLMLrtL2VU8SzW5NiZkYjgOEjbhasJ2q_xEfIJ5PVM1Cj75nPiYzETOcZDpSmT8E4Su3LjqXiJSTX6QLzDY_jdWHo/s320/Hobby+Bingo.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="299" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx9Df4Li7rs0H3cxaiTV_7L2MS7yDgTAg7zAgAYZiQ8vXP74SqbmlLMLrtL2VU8SzW5NiZkYjgOEjbhasJ2q_xEfIJ5PVM1Cj75nPiYzETOcZDpSmT8E4Su3LjqXiJSTX6QLzDY_jdWHo/s0/Hobby+Bingo.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><p>Now, at first I looked at it and though while it was interesting, I initially dismissed any idea of doing it as not possible, as it's clearly tailored towards GW stuff, very little of which I paint these days. However, the more I looked at it, the more I thought I would give it a go. Even with historical stuff, doing units, hero's, vehicles and scenery won't be a major issue. The big struggles I see ahead will be Behemoths/Lord of war and kitbashed models. </p><p>I shall try to get around the behemoths with some big stuff in my orc and goblin army and the kitbash stuff I shall worry about later down the line. </p><p>All this will start in January and I will try and keep a monthly log of how I am going. I think this is a three way competition with my main rival being the <a href="https://sachiel-returns.blogspot.com/">Sachiel Returns blog</a>!</p><p>In the mean time, Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year!</p>Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-27495825048779329982020-04-12T12:00:00.000-07:002020-04-12T12:00:48.361-07:00Blast from the Past<br />
<br />
One of this years main projects has been sorting stuff out in the pile of shame. A lot of stuff has been sold on as I have been honest with myself about what I would actually get around to.<br />
<br />
The main pile of stuff that has been cleared out has been my 40k stuff. As a former GW boy I had a lot but I have fallen out of love with the game itself despite several attempts on my behalf to reboot myself in the game. As a result over the last year or so I have purged most of my 40k.<br />
<br />
Which leads me to this short post. The other day I was clearing the last few things out when I found these two at the bottom of a box:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBJRIAmkb6vB2mYVVJzwXDR8lONiDGVsaCQMESdwLnYTrpuKH1gSxZMkDknFSWnPqZjud8Qvt0j9xiszhzmWeqcFGQHu6hf2Ax5sZj6kX7huTkI2wQgeehpKJXjkHRnF7U8XLSRI7k_6k/s1600/c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1068" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBJRIAmkb6vB2mYVVJzwXDR8lONiDGVsaCQMESdwLnYTrpuKH1gSxZMkDknFSWnPqZjud8Qvt0j9xiszhzmWeqcFGQHu6hf2Ax5sZj6kX7huTkI2wQgeehpKJXjkHRnF7U8XLSRI7k_6k/s320/c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My old paint scheme was fairly basic and these were already pretty much done. I almost put them on ebay but figured I may as well finish them off since it wouldn't take long. Here is the final result:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQTDnT00XNVccA2lSP09lidYCe3K3adF4YDnnHc5B1cZ0Hpd7G4-KZOYWAb8v55piRYVT_-UlMAflu-uPrQtmQ9K6_IgODkx3lh7W3CVItm60S9mXhtgvMmNjfUK0t-XKCBUky_byfyXs/s1600/Cadian+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="916" data-original-width="1600" height="183" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQTDnT00XNVccA2lSP09lidYCe3K3adF4YDnnHc5B1cZ0Hpd7G4-KZOYWAb8v55piRYVT_-UlMAflu-uPrQtmQ9K6_IgODkx3lh7W3CVItm60S9mXhtgvMmNjfUK0t-XKCBUky_byfyXs/s320/Cadian+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I stuck to the basic scheme and the simple basing that 2007 me used to use so they fit with the rest of the army.<br />
<br />
This now means I have no unpainted 40k in my collection anymore. Actually, I think I have a half finished ork vehicle somwhere that I really must get done.<br />
<br />
Progress wise the desk is awash with Bavarians from the War of Spanish Succession, some 15mm Republican Romans and a couple of Orc and Goblin Spear Chukka's. There all coming along at a fair pace so hopefully there should be some more posts this month. Fingers crossed! <br />
It's been a while!<br />
<br />
Nearly 2 and a half years as it turns out. Why, in these turbulent times am I revisiting my blog? To be honest, I am really not qute sure as to why, but I have decided make an attempt at blogging my hobby progress once again.<br />
<br />
And what has the last two years of hobby bought me? Quite a lot as it happens. I have a hobby room set up and this year is seeing the final push to get it all finalised. I hope to complete it soon. However, it has been sufficiently equipped for me to be quite productive.<br />
<br />
I have been painting a lot of stuff for myself and also taking on some commission work. New project wise, I started a Warhammer Fantasy Orc and Goblin army last year and there is a 15mm Roman Army in the works. I am also experimenting with other smaller scales and games.<br />
<br />
For now, here are some pictures of stuff I have completed recently.<br />
<br />
I recently completed three Perry Miniatures battalions of French Line Infantry for a client. Considering the amount of white in these, I was really pleased in how they turned out. The order also included three mounted colonels:<br />

The same client has commission four War of Spanish Succession Battalions in 28mm. Here is the first all done and based, the rest are coming along nicely.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Finely, at the recent Hammerhead show I picked up three 7TP tanks in 20mm for my Polish. These are from Early War Miniatures and I painted them up straight away. With a 37mm gun they should give the Germans pause for thought.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
What's coming up? Well, there are more Bavarians, some geenskins and some 15mm Romans - and that's just the start. I am aiming for a ratio of one mini a day sp stay tuned. <br />

Back from the dead!<br />
<br />
It's been a while since I blogged, but it's about time I got back on track. I figured a post to get you all up to date was in order. Sadly, it's going to be very wordy post with no pictures of toy soldiers.<br />
<br />
So as per my last post, the house move was done and the new man cave sorted out. But I must confess I simply wasn't finding the time for the hobby. This eventually led to a slide in mojo and everything ground to a halt. Fold in the summer holidays, decorating, overtime and general stuff. And not much has been done - I've still not painted a model this year!<br />
<br />
I realised that things needed to change, and I am currently trying to make these changes. The biggest decision was to wrap up the business. In truth, it was going well but to the point that it was taking all my spare time. I decided that there was no point turning the hobby into a business if it leaves no time for the hobby! So I am in the process of selling off the stock to make space.<br />
<br />
I am also taking a more proactive approach in getting mundane stuff around the house - the chores had built up to such a point that I felt bad even considering doing hobby. I've decided to put aside some of my down time towards clearing this back log.<br />
<br />
And finally, I am now taking a more "Project based" approach to the hobby. This will inolve working on things in blocks rather than a unit of this and then a unit of that. I also need to stop buying models, if only because I have too much already and there are other things to spend the money on at the moment.<br />
<br />
But where does that leave things I hear you cry? Well, after a tidy up the other day there a load of 28mm British Napoleonics on the desk. My first project will be to paint up a chunk of this. I am aiming for a brigade of 3 line battalions, a small unit of rifleman, a cannon and some generals. I already have one battalion done so my target is to have all that done by the end of this year.<br />
<br />
You, dear reader, can at least expect some blog updates coming up. Perhaps not as many as I was managing las year, but at least some here and there! Cardboard Fortresshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12876002861315943159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-526777224131616455.post-47874214923162658772017-05-01T06:05:00.003-07:002017-05-01T06:05:42.086-07:00The Hobby Rebuild<br />
<br />
As is often the way with blogs (and probably the hobby in general), I have been letting things slide here, and I realise it's about five months since I posted an update. The reasons for this are many. At first it was the business and the Christmas period getting in the way. After that, we decided to move house and there were all the stresses and strains you associate with that. Needless to say, here we are in May and I haven't painted a single mini yet in 2017. We moved nearly two months ago at the end of Feb, and it's been much slower going get set back up than I thought. <br />
<br />
Despite all that, the house move will in the long term be very beneficial. A new man cave has been alloted to me by the ever patient wife, which I am currently kitting out (more on that shortly) and we now have a large double garage which will, eventually, become my wargames room. That is sadly a very long way off, got to get the painting room and business all back up and running first. Then it will take some time to save to get it converted. <br />
<br />
So the first problem was the new room is smaller than my old hobby den and was in need of some TLC. First off, was the decorating:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWvRcdcx6Aff5YwLJ9N4nGwCNuaV3j0wm6tQ7_SPJiaM-V4xQXiXNRDc6FUDoZzNTjlcAtBBftGPhmm6oKq_QkmksMTOqk2WMZQEFkT_iza_6fyRouyI1QAVlAqS-wN__w960v9MTa5Lk/s1600/IMG_4568.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWvRcdcx6Aff5YwLJ9N4nGwCNuaV3j0wm6tQ7_SPJiaM-V4xQXiXNRDc6FUDoZzNTjlcAtBBftGPhmm6oKq_QkmksMTOqk2WMZQEFkT_iza_6fyRouyI1QAVlAqS-wN__w960v9MTa5Lk/s320/IMG_4568.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Next up I managed to get a very large L-shaped desk. This is great as it gives me a section for painting and a section for my computer/buinsess etc. I have already dumped a load of stuff on the desk and here it is in all its messy glory:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjypDQqn6BLBkQE05V8bzOHktzvHtiGn_dEenBGD5nrllfqUV2P7P8XJ307ULWKg8AyrT64R70TtRT5E9N_0PAuc32MgMbGqZvjcIK4ZQ1vpTUoh0RK7dfTi9WvzYb49SPXLtJ0dcxYzvM/s1600/IMG_4716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjypDQqn6BLBkQE05V8bzOHktzvHtiGn_dEenBGD5nrllfqUV2P7P8XJ307ULWKg8AyrT64R70TtRT5E9N_0PAuc32MgMbGqZvjcIK4ZQ1vpTUoh0RK7dfTi9WvzYb49SPXLtJ0dcxYzvM/s320/IMG_4716.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Bearing in mind that is a baneblade at the front, you can see it gives me plenty of space. I intend to add paint racks, storage space and generally have a neat and tidy area to work in eventually. But that will take time.<br />
<br />
Aside from that, shelves have been put back up and new shelving put up:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtKJuRe6A4Eo9WwiEBFpG2k4Lxc2f6AOrDn38PpaUZwE9dOJGxAGa1AlaHfSNhw6TUUBxtWQCqxG-ACis5HwsMw1GtqMUnx7SyD02muVzzV90yYc-R1sIQO4lu7G984au-_poU14OzVOI/s1600/IMG_4714.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtKJuRe6A4Eo9WwiEBFpG2k4Lxc2f6AOrDn38PpaUZwE9dOJGxAGa1AlaHfSNhw6TUUBxtWQCqxG-ACis5HwsMw1GtqMUnx7SyD02muVzzV90yYc-R1sIQO4lu7G984au-_poU14OzVOI/s320/IMG_4714.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhbeZpumD_Ooae2Oi13XufoZzBwciWVDD0kN75JoPtuUKS-6gRLexqdQvbOgnKJRLkQyuy6aYKFLApxlMETlwOvK5XIBYtrS6ULR5K2v-MIX8GE7q2AvakuJyAdm0q2vKN2r1ENhyphenhyphenPkFA/s1600/IMG_4715.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhbeZpumD_Ooae2Oi13XufoZzBwciWVDD0kN75JoPtuUKS-6gRLexqdQvbOgnKJRLkQyuy6aYKFLApxlMETlwOvK5XIBYtrS6ULR5K2v-MIX8GE7q2AvakuJyAdm0q2vKN2r1ENhyphenhyphenPkFA/s320/IMG_4715.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
As you can see, things are progressing at reasonable pace (I have way too much to paint though). I am hopeful of getting some hobby done in the very near future. Money will of course dictate how fast it all happens, but time is always a factor. Shift work and two small children don't help!<br />
<br />
But that's it for now. I'm glad I am updating the blog again, I wonder what I'll end up painting first. <br />
<br />
